Koh Chang history

History of the Ko Chang Island is quite simple.

By the WWII the island was totally unknown and insignificant. The island was place where just few families lived and their living was ensured by growing coconuts and various kinds of fruit.

In 1941 during Japanese occupation, to the south-east of the island a naval battle between Thai and French navy took place.

Thereafter the island became insignificant again until 1970s when it was discovered by first backpack travellers and adventurers. In 1982, the Ko Chang Island and its adjacent parts became the national park of Mu Chang Marine.

As late as in the last several years the island has become a tourist destination both for Thai people and for foreigners. Contemporary there is big a construction and tourist boom and one might ask how it will impact the island itself.
